frequently asked questions

The questions listed here are the most frequently asked questions regarding our elective prenatal ultrasound services. Should you have any questions that are not answered here, please do not hesitate to call us at (610) 408-9100.
What is an elective prenatal ultrasound?

InnerView Ultrasound offers elective 2D, 3D/4D, and 5D prenatal ultrasound services to provide a positive bonding experience for the mother, father, and family members of the unborn baby. We feel that these realistic images provide a connection between parents and baby that can be beneficial to the entire family.
Does this take the place of an ultrasound at my doctor’s office?

No. All women seeking an elective 3D/4D or 5D ultrasound with InnerView Ultrasound must already be under the care of a healthcare provider for their pregnancy. They should also have already completed a medical, diagnostic ultrasound ordered by their healthcare provider to confirm estimated due date, to screen for fetal anomalies, and to identify any other pregnancy-related issues.

At no time is any elective service provided by InnerView Ultrasound to be used in lieu of a medical, diagnostic ultrasound.
Is it safe? Are there any risks to me or my baby?

Extensive studies over 40 years have found that ultrasound has not been shown to cause any harm to mother or baby. Routine scanning of all pregnancies is now normal throughout the United States. In 3D/4D and 5D scanning, the same type and intensity of ultrasound is used as with conventional 2D scanning.

2D, 3D, 4D, and 5D ultrasound all utilize sound waves to peek inside the body. A transducer placed on the body emits sound waves into the body, listens for the return echo, and generates the image based on the returned data.
Are you able to tell the sex of the baby?

With the experience of thousands and thousands of gender checks (and an overall 99.96% rate of accuracy); we are very confident that we will accurately determine the gender of your baby. Please refer to the GENDER DETERMINATION section of this website for further details.
What if I do NOT want to know the gender of my baby?

That is not a problem either. We understand that some families love a surprise; so It is no problem at all to avoid that area so that gender will be kept a secret.

Just give us a call if you have any questions, concerns, or other special requests regarding this subject.
How much does it cost?

We have packages to fit just about any budget. Overall, our elective packages are significantly more affordable than your typical medical ultrasound. Please refer to the SERVICES section of this website for current packages and specials.
Are these ultrasound packages covered by insurance?

Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of elective ultrasound services. Since this is an elective service (and is not intended to be a replacement for your physician-ordered anatomical ultrasound), you will need to pay the cost of this service as an out-of-pocket expense.

If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA) or a Flexible Spending Account (FSA); the cost of our services are usually covered or are reimbursable with an itemized receipt. Please check with your company's HR department for confirmation.
Do I need an appointment?

Yes, appointments are necessary for all of our services. We recommend booking at least a week or two in advance whenever possible, as there are a few instructions we will provide to help you prepare for your session in order to obtain the best imaging possible.

Our office is open Monday thru Saturday, (closed on Tuesdays / Sundays except by special request). Evening / weekend "after hours" appointments are available for those with busy lifestyles. We don't list specific hours of operation because we try to accommodate as much as possible. Additional "after hrs" and same day appointment fees may apply, depending on day / time.

Please text us at (302) 648-2229 with any questions, or to book your appointment today.
How long does the 3D/4D/5D ultrasound take?

Depending on the package you choose, the actual "scan time" of your ultrasound session will last typically between 10 to 25 minutes. If you have purchased either the Gold or Platinum package, plan on spending about an hour with us as the last few minutes will be used to pick out, export and print pictures of your baby.
How far along should I be before I have a 3D/4D/5D ultrasound?

If you plan on having only one 3D/4D/5D ultrasound, we would recommend booking your appointment between the 24th and 26th week of the pregnancy. However, excellent images of your baby can be possible at any time during your pregnancy, under the right conditions. Many mothers obtain more than one 3D/4D/5D ultrasound and have images to enjoy from both their second and third trimesters.

Factors for determining the best timing for you specifically include: body type and tissue density, position of baby and placenta, and amniotic fluid levels. Every minute of every day can be different, depending on baby's position and the amount and position of fluid pockets at any given time. During your phone consultation and booking, we will discuss these factors to help guide you on proper scheduling.
Will I always get a beautiful picture of my baby?

Usually, but not always. If the baby is persistently looking face down (toward your spine), it may be difficult to see baby's face. If this happens, trying again within the hour will usually be successful because the baby has had time to turn to a more favorable position.

We cannot make any promises that the images will be similar to those you might have seen elsewhere or even from our own facility, or that we can always meet everyone's expectations.

Every baby scans differently, depending on its gestational age, position, amount of fluid, and mother's body habitus. We promise to make every effort to obtain the best possible images of whatever parts of the baby that can be seen. Our session times are double that of almost every other practice to ensure that we have the best chance of capturing your baby's face for at least a few minutes during your session.
Can I bring my family and friends?

Yes. In fact, we encourage our clients to invite family and friends to attend any elective 2D, 3D/4D/5D ultrasound session. This is an amazing family-friendly experience; one that can be shared with your family and loved ones. There is a physical limitation to the number of guests that can comfortably fit in the scan room at one time. But we have plenty of options to make the event memorable for you and your guests.

Please call us at (610) 408-9100 for further options and details.
What equipment do you use to perform the 4D ultrasounds?

We use only the acclaimed GE Voluson family of ultrasound systems at our facility. The Voluson series has been seen in television commercials as well as many printed articles from around the world, and is generally considered to be the best in OB/GYN imaging.

The GE Voluson series contains the finest 2D, 3D, 4D, and 5D ultrasound machines available in the industry. Please note that many facilities may claim to use "state-of-the-art" equipment when in fact they are using much older or inferior technology.
